Summer To-do’s

off the shoulder dress, cruiser bike

Wyoming has been quite unkind to us this Spring.  We had such a mellow winter, that I think the majority of us just assumed the trend would continue throughout the year.   But five back to back snow storms with more than a foot of snow, quickly made us realize we were in for  l a t e  summer .

And while it annoyed me that my snow boots kept having to be used rather than my favorite lace up flats, it also made me dream up a list of sorts that I wanted to accomplish for summer.  So often I find myself complaining about the midweek madness and how my to-do’s grow and grow, I need to remember to also create some fun to-do’s.

Off the Shoulder Dress

Hike Medicine Bow Peak.

For the past couple of years I’ve hiked the peak at least once and I want to keep that going! Last year was…  so dramatic. So I’ll be making sure there is a 0% chance of thunderstorms this time and enjoy it much more.

Creative get together.

My gorgeously talented photographer friend and I are working on hosting a dinner for some of the other creatives in our area.  I can’t wait for a night of friends, wine glasses + pretty flowers.

Eat more picnics.

I think my whole goal in Summer is to get out more.  And one of my favorite ways is to simply pack a lunch and head to the park.  Zeus gets to tag along with me and I’m also planning to have one up in Michigan,  n e a r  a  l i g h t h o u s e.  (Pinch me.)

Travel, travel, travel.

It’s no secret around here (seeing how I won’t stop talking about it) that I have a whole lot of travel coming up and while I’m sure it will be stressful at times, I also can’t wait.

SLC, Orange Beach, California, Georgia, Tetons, and Michigan – here I come!

Eat lots and lots of ice cream.

Basically I want the perfect balance of a summer bod and no ice cream cone uneaten… wish me luck.

Take a class.  [wc_fa icon=”check” margin_left=”” margin_right=””][/wc_fa]

For me that class is a floral arranging one! My friend and I drove down into Colorado two weeks ago for a super fun evening spent around flowers.  But really it can be anything!  Photography, aerial yoga (seriously so fun!), crocheting, what have you, summer is the perfect time to just,

t r y.

Ride my bike.  [wc_fa icon=”check” margin_left=”” margin_right=””][/wc_fa]

Over the years I’ve realized that seeing my town on my bike is so much different than me simply driving to and from everywhere.  It’s the perfect way to get some fresh air, exercise a bit, and create my own paths.

Also I have two baskets on my bike perfect for holding wine, cheese, and some flowers. #summergoalsyall

Vintage Cruiser Bike

Find the perfect summer dress. [wc_fa icon=”check” margin_left=”” margin_right=””][/wc_fa]

I so want to want to have an “off-duty” look that revolves around cool girl style like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid with the quintessential bare midriff tops and sleek jeans, but nope.. I’m a dress girl.

And this dress* from Vintage Willows is perfect for me.  It’s on trend with the off the shoulder, which helps me not feel quite as old (I’m so sorry but I just can’t hop on the choker trend) and..  i t  h a s  p o c k e t s.   I was so excited to receive this dress from Vintage Willows, as they are one of my favorite boutiques to shop at when I sneak down into Colorado –  I highly recommend visiting them if you are near!

Have more bonfires.

My dad is a big bonfire fan, so to me summer is always about fire + wine + chocolate.  But I want to start having some of my own!

Find the perfect summer cocktail.

Last summer I was all about my Whiskey Apple Sparklers, but this year I’m thinking I’m going to try out a recipe from my Year of Cozy cookbook, that involves shrubs.

Cruiser Bike

Plan less.

As a planner that idea frightens me quite a bit.  But I really want to be a bit more spontaneous this summer or at the very least not plan every minute of my travels.  I know that travel is best left up to the unknown… but as a serial planner I’m much happier with an itinerary.

STILL I’m going to ditch the itinerary (or at least create a minimalistic one) and try to revel in the unplanned minutes.

[wc_divider style=”image” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=””]

I’m a bit partial, but I don’t think summer time in Laramie can be beaten. Our town empties as the college students leave and a  h o t  day for us is ninety. So you can often find me swinging by the ice cream parlor on my bike with Zeus in tow and  a cute dress to boot.

What are your to-do’s this summer?

  • Love your bike, it’s super cute! Such a nice and refreshing post (as opposed to this fiery unforgiving fever i’m currently having rn ugh) but I think I am adding ride my bike to my list too! I have a Pashley – it’s a very similar style to yours, has baskets and nice handlebars and all that jazz but I really need to use it more! Ride along the London thames or something cool like that hahah!

I definitely want to get out of my house more!!! And want to ride a bike and go for picnics and basically do everything you said!!!! But for that I need the sun shining at my face bright and nice. Stupid, stupid weather!

And your PICTURES……. there are no words to even describe them…

    Sam || Beautydetour

    • Our weather quickly turned into more rain and SNOW! My Spring fever is getting to an all time high. Thank you so much Sam! I’m always nervous trying out new photos so I’m happy to hear that they were well received. xo

  • I want to start riding my bike much more. I live in Oxford in the UK and moving around by bike is by far the most time efficient way, plus sometimes you get to cycle through little alleyways around the university that are just gorgeous. I think this summer I would also like to have a big BBQ for my friends. Your dinner for creatives sounds great. Look forward to hearing more about that!

    Inma x

    • I can’t even imagine all the gorgeous views you have in London from a bicycle! xo

  • What fabulous plans!! I hope the weather works out in your favour and you get your picnics and bicycle rides!! : )

    • Thanks so much Gemma! So far the weather has been a bit uncooperative but I’m hoping June will be a turnaround! xo

  • These photos are absolutely gorgeous and embody summer! I’m always a sucker for a great summer dress; I’ve been eyeing a few from Zara – all backless though, and I’m on the fence about comfort versus style.

Would love to see more posts as the summer goes by – just realized this post was a while ago haha!
