Ways to Give Back This Season

Dona Paula Wines Fall Season

Fall is the time of cozy knits and pumpkin spice everything. The season where we can come up with endless excuses to have wine and cheese nights.  And where the ratio of time spent in my PJs gets dangerously close to 50/50 to real pants.  But possibly the best part of this season… giving.

It’s a season we start look past our own checklists and needs and start to look around a bit.  While I wish I could say I always am taking the time to give back to my community, it’s unfortunately one of those things that gets constantly pushed to the back burner.  So I started coming up ways that help it stay on top of my mind.

Shopping with a purpose

This is possibly the easiest way to give back.  Companies like, Badala and Jimani Collections, are just a few of my favorites to shop at.  These beautiful side bowls gifted to me were hand carved from locally sourced olive wood and then hand painted by women in Badala’s Nairobi office.  Not only do they help employ local craftsmen and women, they also give me some stunning home decor.

And my love for this Jimani Collections necklace has been documented on my blog! I’ve never worn it without someone commenting on it and knowing that something as simple as a necklace can support someone is really unique.Giving back has turned into something as simple as clicking ‘Order now.’

The Season of Giving

Donating your skills

Whenever I think of volunteering, I think of how I’m always running out of time in my day.  But after looking up some local non profits it turns out many are simply looking for skills.

A local charity in Montana is actually looking for a photographer to help provide more professional photographers to help elevate their website.  It’s true it will take time out of my day to help, but it somehow feels more interactive than simply manning a booth at an event.  Don’t be forget to use your talents and skills to help others! It can help making volunteering more accessible.

Shopping corporations wisely

One thing I’ve been loving is corporations tapping into intentional buying.  It’s not just amazing passion companies like I’ve already mentioned trying to make a difference, it’s stores like Amazon, Walmart and Target all stepping up.  Right now Walmart is donating $2 to Puerto Rico rebuilding efforts for every dollar spent in their store.  And using Smile Amazon gives you the option to donate charities you feel passionate about.

While this is probably my least favorite way of giving back (there’s something about those local connections), it makes even daily shopping matter.

Giving back is one of those topics I want to start covering more on here! While I can assure you skincare tips and lifestyle posts aren’t going anywhere I equally want to talk about ways to make a difference in your community.

What is your favorite business to give back to?
