One Word, One Year

  • I love the idea of less Kelsey, the moment I saw the word it felt positive and uplifting – minimal and free. I feel ‘more’ may come across as consume more and wanting more of what we don’t have.

Lovely idea and I hope to join you in this goal too πŸ™‚

    • I was so so happy to read your comment Hanh πŸ™‚ I was so nervous that it would come across as being negative. But yes! More is sometimes worse than less I think. Especially, when it comes to having an excessive amount of things, rather than life experiences. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! xo

I think ‘Less’ is a perfect word to keep in mind for the coming year and I could totally get behind it. Less stress. Less stuff. Less weighing you down or keeping you stagnant. Beautiful idea πŸ™‚

    • Yes exactly Julia! I was so nervous to choose such a word that is sometimes viewed as negative, so I’m so happy that you agree. πŸ™‚ Thanks for making my week!

  • So so true! It’s hard to do “less” in a consumer based society. But I definitely need to work on streamlining my makeup (or at least organizing it…)

    • Same here Ellen! I’m always coming up with new excuses as to why I need a new makeup palette. Here’s hoping that our 2016 can be much more streamlined. xo

  • Bernadette
  • Awesome one word resolution! As you probably read on my 2016 Beauty Resolutions, I am definitely planning on doing less shopping, less makeup purchases and less comparing myself to others. Love this idea πŸ™‚

    • When I read your resolutions I was so happy I wouldn’t be the only one trying to cut down on shopping. Stronger together right? So glad you liked the idea Sarah. xo

  • Great notion of less πŸ™‚ I definitely need to minimize the contents of my closet πŸ˜› -Maireem

    • It’s so nice knowing that I’m not the only one fighting the struggle of needing more closet space. Hopefully we can temper that need a bit in 2016! πŸ™‚ Thanks Maireem for your lovely comment!

  • Love love love. Perfect for this year.

    • πŸ™‚ Thank you Chelsea! I’m really hoping I can do it.

  • Yes! I love making this word the word of the year. Because when I think less, I think MORE of the good stuff.

xx katie // a touch of teal

    • Exactly Miss Katie! πŸ™‚ Hopefully this year of less bad brings much more good! xo

  • I love this, Kelsey! I think this is something I could work on too. I don’t necessarily want to put less into my business, but I do want to be conscious about where I’m putting my extra time and make sure I’m putting less into meaningless things (like youtube) and more into spending time with Dustin, reading, and snuggling Roo

    • Couldn’t agree more Chelsie! I was so nervous picking such a typically negative word, but I think because I’m more positive I’ll make sure it’s less meaningless stuff and more important things. (Not just a blanket less.) I’m so glad I read that you were a one word, one year skeptic too πŸ™‚ I felt like such a bandwagoner when I switched my opinion, but I felt much better when I read your article! xo

  • What an inspirational post hun! Thanks for sharing. I actually don’t know what my one word for a year would be–I’ll have to come up with that! Sounds like an awesome idea.

Love your blog and so glad I found it! πŸ™‚

    • You made my week Haemin! It took me a bit to find my one word for this year so I say take your time and it will come to you πŸ™‚ Thanks for such a lovely comment! xo

  • Hannah

    Love this!!!

    • Thank you so much Hannah! πŸ™‚

  • Such a beautiful post Kelsey! I agree, society today is definitely obsessed with likes, follows and more money. Taking a step back and embracing simplicity is so important.

This year I am cutting back on phone time. I am dedicating the weekend to being outside and simply enjoying my life. Ice cream bike rides sound lovely!

Hope you have a wonderful year and enjoy every moment to its fullest πŸ™‚

    xo, mikΓ©la / simplydavelyn.com

    • That sounds like the best plan for less πŸ™‚ Ice cream bike rides should always take precedence! xo

  • Less is the perfect word for 2016!

    • Yay! I was so worried it would be too negative πŸ™‚

  • I love that you chose less! I just stumbled over your blog and I’m happy to say that it’s one of my favourites! Your blog photos are amazing, FYI. My word for the year is ‘stronger’. Stronger with my blog game. Stronger when something gets tough. Stronger than what I know isn’t right. Thank you so much for this post!

    • Oh thank you so much Hatsy for making for my day. πŸ™‚ And I absolutely love your stronger word. I think that is perfect because so often I think I let the little things bother me when really just being stronger and more secure in myself is something I desperately need to practice. I hope you have a wonderful 2016 pretty girl! xo

  • Dara

I love this. LESS is such a great word for the year, I am totally on board for your year of LESS — is it too late to join you on this πŸ˜‰

    • Absolutely not pretty girl! I’ve been doing… ok with it. I’ve noticed my purchases are getting less and less and my tendencies to reach for my phone is soon much less too. So I would love for someone else to join in so maybe it can spur me on to be better. xo

  • ventyy

I really love your input on this! Good Luck!
