The Secrets of a Good Weekender

The Secrets of a Good Weekender

Weekend-ing has certainly become my favorite verb as of late.  From running off to Michigan to Pinedale, WY, my weekends have been chalked full with travels.

Though weeekend traveling can take a bit more preparedness due to time constraints + wanting to fill up your weekend with as much as possible.  And I thought I’d share some ways to make sure you are able to fill up your 48 hours away as best you can.

one. Consistent sleep schedule.

Easily one of the hardest commitments to do while traveling.  I’m always finding myself staying up way too late trying to fit as much as I can in one day, when I only end up making the next day even harder to start.  (That sunrise photo above didn’t help my sleep at all… but it definitely made up for it.)

If you can give yourself a consistent schedule your much more likely to not over sleep and make up for lost beauty rest.

two. A  f l e x i b l e  itinerary.

Ok, yes I’m one of those that likes to have a basic itinerary planned for a trip.  Though a big lesson I’ve learned this year is a  f l ex i b l e itinerary is the most important thing I can keep.

And to help with that, I like to keep my itinerary in a grouped format.

breakfast
       morning
            lunch
               afternoon
                     dinner

The only time I really try to pinpoint times are those events that are scheduled times. (Tours, weddings, etc.)  The rest I keep a bit more broad.  It’s easier to switch around schedules this way and causes me a lot less stress.

three. Lots of planning.

This is by far my favorite part of traveling.

I love doing research on things to do and see in different spots around the country. And luckily with Google and social media, finding beautiful spots to see is extremely easy anymore.

A super easy way is to simply search for a place in Instagram.  Most places have official instagrams that showcase the best of what they have to offer.  (Trust me if Wyoming has it’s own official Instagram I’m betting most places do.)  People + photographers will also tag these accounts in their photos so make sure to check out the tagged photos as well.

Another great way is besides the old fashioned way of simply asking someone, is Google “________ tours.” This is going to give you very tourist places (well duh) but I’ve also found that they can give me some blogs that will lead to off the map places and let me build up my own tour/schedule.

And, of course… Pinterest is not without a million ideas + images for travel.

four. Plan in some down time.

You have only 48 hours. But you also want to enjoy them.

Carve out an afternoon or early morning with nothing to do and see where it takes you. (If you have been skipping out on sleep it will most likely be a nap.)

five. Know that you can’t fit it all.

It’s such a bummer to sit down and realize that all your planning and dreaming can’t fit into one weekend.  It’s ok.  The beauty of weekend-ing is that there is more than one and you can simply try again next weekend.

I love that weekends have now turned into their own verb and all of the new places that they have allowed me to see.

How do you weekend?
