Things to Remember When You Start a Blog

23 March, 2016

  • It does feel lonely at times, the beginning, but I have met already so many friendly people it is definitely worth it!

    • Same here! I’m so thankful for all those that I met through my blog. xo

  • Charlotte Lane

Your blog is definitely one of my faves and I love these sort of ‘tips’ post’s that you write – they’re always so informative. I’m such a newbie with my blog, I don’t even know how to get my pictures side by side and then write something/a link underneath them without the page going all funny so I feel like my blog looks a little too simple at times! I would love to learn more about how my blog looks and how to insert photo’s side by side and all that fun stuff – maybe you could possibly help me if you don’t mind? I can email you if it’s easier?xo

    • Thank you so much Charlotte! My heart fluttered a little reading this because I always get so nervous passing out blogging advice. You can absolutely email me ๐Ÿ™‚ Anytime. I’m not sure if I can help out much… I have wordpress + a theme… but if you want to bounce some ideas off someone then by all means email away sweet girl! xo

  • I definitely agree with these points you made – yeah pretty photos are awesome but its not everything

    Beauty Candy Loves

    • I think we have to remember they are just pictures ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stopping by Candice!

  • This is so true! And not only for new bloggers, but for seasoned vets. We all have things we can improve, and they aren’t just going to change overnight. Thanks for the reminder!

    • That is such a good point Christine. I feel like everyday I learn something new! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • All of these are so true and things you need to think about when starting a blog!

jenna | Beauty And The Style

    • I’m so glad you agree Jenna! xo

  • This was a really lovely post, and I completely agree with all the points! I’ve especially struggled with comparing my blog to others and feeling unsatisfied with my own progress, but now I just try to work that much harder. And as for the second point, I feel like the best photos & ideas are always the ones that come about almost by accident. xx

    • Thanks Jenni! And you couldn’t be more right. One of my favorite photos was a whoops and it turned out perfect. Thanks so much for stopping by love! xo

  • <3 <3 <3 everything about this post is YES YES YES! Also, have I told you recently how much I love your writing style? Because I love it. I feel like we're just sitting at a coffee shop talking blog. And you're right: rome wasn't built in a day. So many people look at what I do and see the "free stuff" I receive and think that they can sit down and just start blogging and getting free stuff, too. It doesn't work like that! It's all about slowly building up your audience, being as real as possible and hustling so hard. And, the hustle life is lonely at times. I was just talking to Dustin about this the other night; HTC is my own little business and it's incredibly lonely at times because there is no one else who loves it and is working on it like I am! I'm in charge of making all the big choices and that can be so overwhelming at times! Also, thanks for being the sweetest blog friend and such an important part of my community!

    • Thank you so much Chelsie!! Your comment seriously made my week. And EXACTLY. I think a lot of times people (including myself) get caught up in the pretty photos or fun collabs and forget about all the time spent behind the scenes. I get so incredibly happy whenever I remember I have a blogging soulmate out there. Have a great bday (tomorrow right?) and travel safe with Dustin and Rosie Roo! xo

  • Olivia Jane

Ugh I love this post! I’ve just started a blog again for 4th time and I’m a perfectionist. Sometimes it doesn’t seem worth it but when I’m not doing it it’s all I want to be doing! Lol “Rome was not built in a day” what a good thing to remember as cliche as it is!
Thanks Kelsey today’s post was on point ??
    Olivia Jane

    • I’m so happy you liked the post Olivia! I always get so nervous sharing blogging advice (I’m far from an expert), so hearing that you liked it meant the world. I hope you have a great rest of your week love! xo

  • I think you captured everything beautifully! Can’t agree more with the don’t be afraid to mess up message! I think it’s really great to experiment with different styles of photos, topics… especially if you blog as a hobby, as there really is no pressure. It’s so helpful to try different things to find what works for you and what makes blogging joyful for you.
By the way, I only just discovered your blog today and I love it ๐Ÿ™‚

    Inma x

    • ‘m so happy you found it Inma! It’s so nice to have you hear. And I couldn’t agree more with you ๐Ÿ™‚ I think it’s so easy to write about things that bring readers, but much more rewarding writing about something you enjoy. xo

      • I’m really glad to have found it! I am loving the topics you choose and how you write and photograph. It is very inspiring ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  • Nicole

Aw your blog is so pretty! Such nice & helpful advice by the way xx

    • Thank you so much Nicole! I’m glad you liked the post. xo

  • Great tips Hun, I know when I first started out my photo’s were terrible and I think I have improved so much with my photo’s over time as well as my blogging and linking I think all this comes with time and your going to make mistakes with everything but it is always stuff you can learn from and improve.

    • I hopped on over to your site and your photos are so good! I was the exact same way – my first couple of photos kind of make me chuckle they were so inexperienced, but I love to see how far I’ve come ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Rebecca Fletcher

Starting a blog is one of the best things I have ever done and Ive only been bogging for just over 4 months. It is definitely worth it xx

    • Same here Rebecca! I’m so glad you started one and are loving it. xo

  • I’ve recently have relaunched my blog and wanted to focus more attention on it since YouTube has been my main focus for the last 2 years. I find blogging a nice place to share my thoughts and a really amazing community of supportive bloggers and readers. I love the tips you gave and I find them really helpful as I revisit the blogging would.

    • I’m so glad it was helpful! I am always in awe of YouTube-ers ๐Ÿ™‚ It looks like an enormous amount of work behind it. Thanks for stopping by love. xo

  • All of these points are spot on! I am constantly getting frustrated over how my images look and my blogs success level. But you are right – “rome wasn’t built in a day.” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Your blog is so pretty, I really do enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

    xo, mikรฉla /

    • Same here! I fuss over my pictures a lot, when really it’s just one part and they will never be ‘perfect.’ Thanks so much and have a great weekend Mikรฉla. xo

  • Samileen

Totally agree with you. And I have to admit the blogging community is so friendly and welcoming that all you have to do is go and say hello!. So happy I let my fear of not being accepted go past me and started blogging, it’s such a joy to document what you love and have people come over from all across the world and unite on that.

    Sam || Beautydetour

    • This is so beautifully said Samileen ๐Ÿ™‚ And I couldn’t agree more!

  • jodie.keith

It is true that blogging does take time and a hell of a lot of effort but if you truly love it then it will be oh so rewarding and just completely worth it! Great post, love spreading those positive vibes!
